Hurricane Katrina Volunteer Project
In February 2009, a group of 24 employees from Khorrami Pollard & Abir LLP traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana, to help rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The damage to the Lower Ninth Ward was devastating, and most houses in the area have yet to be rebuilt. We joined efforts with a local non-profit group, LowerNine.Org, to concentrate our efforts on the area hit hardest by the levee breach during the Hurricane, the Lower Ninth Ward. Volunteers from KP&A and LowerNine.Org did an array of tasks, including set-up the Sankofa Market, reframed and dry-walled two family homes, began a gardening project for residents, cleaned up a local community center and prepped a house to be painted.
