This evening I went to an awards ceremony at which my very gracious table host presented each of his guests with an amazing one and three-quarter inch silver iPod Shuffle. This piece of technology jams into its tiny footprint the equivalent of what one-quarter of my bedroom as a teenager took up for music in the form of what was then referred to as a hi-fi, and shelves upon shelves of twelve-inch vinyl records.
